Shooting Demon Street Sweeper: Big Scary

Posted on May 26, 2008

I just got home from shooting (a part of) Demon Street Sweeper. I played the part of Big Scary. I’m not sure how many details I’m allowed to give out. So I’ll just say that I’m the physical manifestation of a demon when he’s not satisfied with his victims choices.

First of all, this was my first shoot. My first time. It was great. Richard, Brian and crew were all so easy going. It made things a lot easier, as I was not stressed out trying to get it perfect the first time.

There were plenty of sweet pictures taken as well, I’ll be getting those up ASAP.

(ps. I intended to write a lot more than this, but I didn’t eat much for dinner and its late, and I’m faint. What can I say, I bruise like a peach.)

UPDATE: Just now uploaded the pictures from the shoot. Thanks to Amy Cook for bringing her camera and taking all the shots. :)

Also, I want to thank Kayla Cook for all the makeup work she did. It took quite a while (1-1/2 to 2 hours my guess) and she worked through everyone else eating pizza (even me, awkward as it may have been). So yeah, THANKS Kayla!

See the Gallery of pictures HERE (23 pictures total).

And here are two of my favorites…

Social Networking Schizophrenia

Posted on May 25, 2008

Alright, so the social networking phenomena is great and all, but it seems to have gotten out of hand somewhere along the way.

As of right now I have 3 social network accounts. Myspace, IFP/PHX, and Filmixer. This struck me as excessive just now as I signed up for Filmixer, which is a social network for Film and Media creators. The reason it was so significant, is that its using the same platform as IFP/PHX. Both IFP/PHX and Filmixer use the ning.com platform. Ning.com is basically a template for social networking that allows you to create a social network for whatever subject/theme you want.

It does seem that Filmixer has additional functionality and is a bit more advanced. And thats not really t he problem. None of this is really a problem. I think its great that we have so many options when it comes to the communities we join.

The problem is that it feels like we have some overlap-age occurring. This may not hold true for everyone in each community. But for me as an actor, I have 3 sites that I need to update when, four when you include this site.

If I’m lazy and I ignore updating content on each site, it will look like i’m inactive in the community. And if I do update each site, it takes a significant effort to do so.

…or maybe I’m just lazy and i like to hear myself whine.

What we need is for everyone to agree on one social network. That, or, someone needs to explain to me the advantage of having a fragmented group of people with similar interests.

The Old Scam and Meetup.com

Posted on May 24, 2008

Today was great. I started it off by auditioning for The Old Scam, a comedy by Joe Poniatowski and Adam Farber. Both Joe and Adam were really cool and relaxed, which made things allot easier on me, as I was experiencing a bit of anxiety. Hopefully that affect will fade after I’ve done a few more auditions. I’m still green.

Then, after that, I went to the Phoenix Library a Library in Phoenix where I participated in my first ever meetup.com experience. This was a meetup for the The Phoenix Indie Film Makers Meetup Group. I had a great time, and I was able to meet a bunch of awesome people. We were given a briefing on insurance for production. Not something that allot of people consider (or at least that is my suspicion).

Lately I’ve been busy working on the scene’s I have for the Jimmy Flowers Showcase class. Aside from that I trowel the internets seeking out audition notices and potential projects to be involved in.

Tomorrow I’ll be auditioning for two student films, Fall and Rise by Will Schoenfeld and Insignificance by J.J. Bukowski.

Otherwise, I plan to attend the Indie Film maker meetup group this Saturday for a little Production Insurance education.

Being an Extra in Twisted Trucker Tales: Vol. II

Posted on May 17, 2008

Last night I headed out to Tolleson Arizona to help out (i.e., be an Extra) with Twisted Trucker Tales Vol. II. A movie/series by Richard Foredyce and Brian Propes.

It was great to meet Richard and Brian, both are really nice and easy to get along with. That goes for everyone I met there; Debbie Overbey, Rick Dyer, Buzz Remde and his wife Robin Remde, Brandon, Ron, and everyone else whose names escape me.

I had a great time and I’m looking forward to shooting the Demon Street Sweeper nextish week.

The Between Postponed

Posted on May 9, 2008

The turbulent waters of the film industry have struck. This time capsizing the The Between ship. The project has been put on hold for an unknown amount of time. Very disheartening for Jimmy Flowers (Writer, Director) and many others who had attached to the project, that includes me.

I think it will still happen, its just a matter of when.

First Experiences: Student Films and Being an Extra

Posted on May 3, 2008

Today I spent 9 1/2 hours being an Extra. Or as I like to refer to it, Background work.

This was for a SCC short student film. The name of the movie was Laced Up Stilettos. The Director/Studen was Chiara Montonati. And its something of a story involving two boxers (the fighters, not the dogs). This meant that as “Background” personnel I participated in a great deal of yelling and screaming. Thus my throat hurts.

Other than that I was able to observe the crew doing their thing, which was educational. I also was able to observe communication and how important the relationships (not personal, but you know, professional) are between all the crew members. In other words, how important strong communication, and filling your role.

I’m really tired right now, and I just realized I’m not being very interesting. So I’m going to sign out.

Status Update on the Jimmy Flowers Class

Posted on May 2, 2008

Thursday night was awesome.  Earlier in the week I’d kinda been bummed out by a conversation I’d had with someone.  Then I went to class and it completely corrected that negative state of mind that conversation had thrown me into.

We were supposed to find a variety of scene’s we want to perform for the showcase (which is being held at the end of the class).  Along with those scene’s we are also supposed to have a monologue.

Despite how easy it sounds, finding these things are much more difficult than it would seem.  I looked for a little while and found myself empty handed.  So I decided to just write a scene and see if it would work out.  I finished writing and I didn’t feel like it was that great, but being that I had nothing else to work with, I decided to go with it anyway.

Fast-forward to class, and the scene I wrote out was so much better than I expected.  I really liked it (as it turns out).  I think its one I want to use for the showcase.

Then Amy Bliefnick brought a scene that I was assigned, and I really liked that one too.

I’m looking forward to next week.  It’ll be fun to dismantel each of these scene’s and add flavor to the characters.

Cant say the same for my monologue, i’m not too sure about that.  I still haven’t found “the one” I really like.
