Working With Catbrain On The IFP/PHX 48-Hour Film Challenge
Posted on July 17, 2008
Good news! I was able to fit Catbrain Film Factory into my schedule. I’ll be working with them this weekend on the IFP/PHX 48-hour film challenge.
Invited to Participate in the Catbrain Film Factory Project for the IFP/PHX 48-Hour Film Challenge
Posted on July 15, 2008
Liana Hubbard called me today and invited me to participate in Catbrain Film Factory 48-hour challenge film project for the 5th annual IFP/PHX 48-hour film challenge.
Oddly enough just a week ago I was sitting there thinking to myself that I wanted to do a 48-hour film competition. Plus I met Paul Hoeprich of Catbrain Film Factory at the audition for On A Plain (tentative name) and he is really nice/cool/chill (a good combo), and I’d be working with Liana Hubbard. Not to mention the other people, whose names I do not know at this time. Basically its an opportunity to work with people who are more experienced than yours truly.
Unfortunately I wont be able to participate. Yes, it hurts. I currently have prior obligations which will not allow me to join. I did leave some wiggle room though, I told Liana that I’d try to manage something. We’ll see how this turns out.
Batman’s Bad Day Wins at The Loft’s First Friday Shorts contest!
Posted on July 12, 2008
Just received word from Phillip Lybrand … okay, I’ll just use Phillip’s own words…
Hey guys,
Just wanted to let you all know that “Batman’s Bad Day” took the prize last night at The Loft’s ‘First Friday Shorts’ contest! The film played very well and I received a lot of compliments afterwards about the performances, so I have all of you to thank for the good reception! The film will be a part of the 2008-2009 Year-End Winners Showdown next May, and it’s also been accepted into the Tampa Bay Comic Con Film Festival next month!
Thanks again to each of you for helping out.
-Phil

I (Might Have) Have Been Cast in Batmans Bad Day!
Posted on June 28, 2008
Recently I was cruisin the Zonie forums looking to see what new projects are out and about. I came across Greenless Pictures “Batmans Bad Day” – A film by Phillip Lybrand.
Its a short film, I think its part of a series (see the below video “Batmans In The Kitchen”). I’ll be driving to Tucson, AZ today to meet Phillip and the rest of the prospective cast. Thus the reason for saying I might have been cast in Batmans Bad Day. Basically, I think as long as Phillip is not disappointed in me, I’ll have the part, but it has not been promised as of yet. Unless of course I’ve completely misread our communications.
With the cost of gas these days (~$4.19) driving to Tucson is something I’d generally only consider for a big project (or maybe its the other way around because that would just cost that much more gas?). But two things have convinced me I want to be part of this project.
Firstly, “Batmans In The Kitchen” portrays a sense of humor I really like.
Secondly, “Batmans In The Kitchen” proves that there will be at least a little production value; something you don’t always have in low budget films.
Thirdly, the script for Batmans Bad Day made me laugh out loud. Really, I did, the humor rocks.
Bam! I’m in.
Here is the (possibly first of a series?) “Batmans In The Kitchen” video…
Update 6/28/2008 @ 8:43pm: Just got back from Tucson, AZ. Phillip and his wife Kelli were really cool. I also met Batman (the guy playing Batman). The whole event was much less epic than I had first supposed it to be. But it was still a good meet.
We discussed various aspects of the film and film-making in general. Then we did a run-through of the script a few times. It was good. I enjoyed it anyway, I read for Superman, Superwoman, Green Lantern, and The Flash. Like I said, I had fun.
Update #2: See the video HERE!

The Educated Actor – A Reliable Source For Quality Information
Posted on June 27, 2008
Just checked out The Educated Actor. Its a blog that is dedicated to providing relevant and valuable information. There likely will not be a large amount of posts, but the ones that do show up are worth reading.
Bookmark it, read it, love it.
Its a Wrap: Fall and Rise
Posted on June 15, 2008
Just got back from shooting Fall and Rise, a student short by Will Schoenfeld. It was a fun shoot, everyone was enjoyable to be around and there was no significant drama (they made me keep my clothes on).
Then there was the sun, the really really hot sun. The shiny boards didn’t help much, i mean yeah, we had better shots because of them. But talking about the heat and comfort levels its a different story. The shiny board on the stand was hot, but it was nothing compared to the round roll up one they used, that thing was intense.
Sweating and cooking aside, it was allot of fun.

Audition: Sometimes You Fall On Your Face
Posted on June 14, 2008
Tonight I auditioned for Office Error-tica. I pretty much sucked it up. Which is fine, you know, it happens – but that doesn’t make it feel any better.
I didn’t feel in character at all – my performance felt flat to me. After auditioning for the character I planned too, they had me read for another character. That one felt allot better. My theory is that the first character being a cocky and arrogant character, is outside my comfort zone. But the second character is supposed to be this creepy sexaholic character. Totally in my comfort zone, I’m pretty sure I didn’t even have to act for that one.
haha, I kid. ;)
Moral of the story is you win some and you lose some. But you can still take a lesson from the losses and , in some senses, turn it into a win. So what is it I can take from this experience?
Pace yourself: This last week (preceding the audition) was packed with events in my personal life. I was migrating jobs, and other projects consumed my time. I need to pace myself, and bite only as much as I can reasonably chew. This means either cancel the personal-life events, or cancel the audition.
Put forth the effort: I had the script for a week. I should have done the character development. I should have worked through all the quirks. But I didn’t, and it showed in the most glaring way possible.
Perspective: Not to encourage these types of situations, but the bad taste in my mouth will significantly sharpen the sweetness of future performances with the proper preperation. :)

New Projects – Cryptic Details Provided
Posted on June 4, 2008
I’ve recently updated my Projects page to reflect some recent changes. Of course, I’ve only provided that there are two new projects; and i’ve aptly titled them Secret Project I and Secret Project II.
You may wonder why I’ve done this. Why even post about them?
Well, partly because I’m excited about them. And if i were in the marketing department (which I am, given that I’m a one man operation) I would say its to drum up excitement, as well as display the active nature of my life in the film industry.
I hope to have more news soon, but I’m not going to release additional details until things are more solidified in each project.
I will say that both projects are similar in some regards, yet totally different in other regards. I’m very excited to have the opportunity to work on both projects, and the individuals I’ll be working with. Its just awesome.

More Education
Posted on May 29, 2008
As we all know education plays an important part in life. As such, I’ve signed up for three more classes offered by Jimmy Flowers.
I’ll be taking Improv 101, Advanced Scene Study & Character Development, and Episodic Adventure.
I’ve always been interested in improv. I seem to have a talent for it, but I suppose we’ll see when it comes down to throwing my cards on the table. I’m excited for it.
I’m very excited for the Advanced Scene Study & Character Development class, I feel like those two areas need quite a bit of work, so yeah, I’ll be working them.
The Episodic Adventure class is not your standard class. I’m not sure what to expect of it, but I know it’ll be fun. The basic premise is that previous to the class start, Jimmy will talk with each of us, and based on those talks he will write a 1 hour pilot show. We will then work on our characters throughout the duration of the class, and film it at the end.
Currently the plan is to film it in-class with what resources we have available. Which is fine, but I secretly hope we are able to spruce it up a bit and make it something more.
More information is available on the classes here.
